تمهيد: تأمل المفاصل المتنوعة في جسم الإنسان، كيف تتحرك بما يناسب مهمتها، فالأصابع لتقبض على شيء ما، تأخذ الوضع المناسب للإمساك بالشيء حسب حجمه، فسبحان الذي خلقها وصورها. وتعرف المفاصل بأنها مكان التقاء عظمتين أو أكثر؛ وذلك لربط هذه العظام وتثبيتها، أو السماح بالحركة من خلالها.

مفصل متحرك: مفاصل الطرفين؛ العلوي والسفلي (Synovial joints).
