تسمم الحمل (Toxemia of pregnancy):
حالة خطيرة ومهددة للحياة، قد تحدث أثناء الحمل بدون سبب واضح؛ وقد تكون دون أعراض أيضاً، ولكن قد يستدل على حدوثها من خلال بعض الأعراض العامة؛ تشمل الصداع الشديد، القيء المستمر، ألم البطن، ارتفاع ضغط الدم، والتشنجات والغيبوبة. وقد تكون أقل حدة؛ حيث يمكن تحديده وعلاجه مبكراً من خلال المتابعة للحامل. انظر الشكل (13-22).

الحمل خارج الرحم (Ectopic pregnancy):
حمل في أي مكان خارج الرحم، وقناة الرحم (قناة فالوب) هي المكان الأكثر شيوعاً، وتسمى أيضاً "الحمل البوقي"، أو بالتجويف البطني الذي هو أقل الأماكن شيوعاً. يحدث - تقريباً - في (2%) من حالات الحمل. و "الحمل البوقي" هي حالة طارئة جراحية؛ لأن أنبوب الرحم لا يمكنه تحمل توسع هائل مثل الرحم؛ ففي نهاية المطاف سوف يتمزق أنبوب الرحم مع نزيف حاد قد يسبب الوفاة. انظر الشكل (13-23).
