للمهَنِ مناصب على مستويات مختلفة، تقارن بالدرجات على سلم. ورغم أن العديد من أخصائيي الرعاية الصحية يحصلون على الرضا الوظيفي والنجاح من خلال البقاء على مستوى واحد، فإن آخرين يهتمون "بصعود السلم الوظيفي Career Ladder" عبر تحصيل تعليم وخبرة إضافية. ومن المهم معرفة أن العمل على مستويات مختلفة، في نفس المجال، له أشكال متنوعة، منها:
